New Plasma Weaponry Empty New Plasma Weaponry

Hey folks, just a heads up that I've officially finished work on the 88 Cannon modifications. We've got three functional prototypes on hand, two stored in the armory for general use and the third kept as my own personal weapon.

These weapons are high-powered, anti-armor plasma cannons. They differ from a standard plasma burst or dispersant weapon in that they contain the particles magnetically and propel the resulting packet down a barrel, making a weapon a bit more in line with an anti-tank rifle or rocket launcher than the typical short-range flare ups man-portable plasma tech is known for. However, the modifications aren't perfect. These guns were designed to run mounted off of a very specific power system, which is too heavy to efficiently be used by one soldier, so some sacrifices have had to be made.

First of all, the main drawback is the high degree of drain on the power cells the system as designed has. The large cells being used can only reliably be used for five shots, and are too bulky to reliably field-reload. When these weapons are deployed, use them sparingly. Swapping the power cell is time consuming, taking upwards of three to five minutes to do properly. As a result, it's incredibly unlikely you'll get more than that average of five blasts.

Once the power cell is drained, the magnetic containment system loses power before the plasma generator or accelerator systems. If needed, a final sixth shot can be made under these circumstances, but the lack of particle containment is almost guaranteed to destroy the weapon's barrel, which will make it more or less useless until we can get them back into the armory for repairs.

Regardless, we've got a much bigger punch against armored targets these days, but we've gotta use it wisely. Pick your targets, don't waste battery power and mind how much of a punch these things pack. They're available for check out from the armory for target practice if you want to get a feel for them, but if you break one, well... that's best not described on a public message. My sister might read this, after all.
